Lighting tools

We see luminaires as lighting tools used for specific purposes. This approach is reflected in the design of our products. ERCO’s product range for architectural lighting includes three fields: lighting control systems, indoor luminaires and outdoor luminaires. Together, they ensure that holistic lighting concepts can be created. Development at ERCO is guided by our vision of 100% LED: all our efforts are geared to producing innovative optoelectronic LED systems in order to achieve efficient visual comfort and scenographic excellence at an ever higher level.

Indoor luminaires

The most important groups in the indoor luminaire product range are the spotlight/track systems and the recessed luminaires. This package is enhanced by special tools such as ceiling washlights, floor washlights or recessed floor luminaires.

Outdoor luminaires

The range of outdoor luminaires extends across all architecture-related outdoor lighting applications, from powerful spotlights and floodlights to bollard luminaires and in-ground luminaires all the way to pathway and orientation luminaires.

Lighting control

Lighting control systems link luminaires and sensors into intelligent light networks. The Light System DALI and the Light Studio software add a new virtual dimension to the system concept of ERCO's product range.

System design

Taking system design to its logical conclusion is a characteristic feature of ERCO products. We never develop products in isolation, but always design whole product groups that are clearly positioned within the well-defined structure of the overall product range. A consistent system for light distribution patterns helps the user select the optimal lighting tool for the task at hand, true to ERCO's philosophy of "light, not luminaires". ERCO believes that system design refers as much to using versatile system accessories, modifying lighting tools to suit particular requirements as to interlinking digitally controllable Light Clients using the Light System DALI.

Size

Specific areas of application require luminaires with precisely adjusted wattages. Many of ERCO's product ranges feature assorted wattages in a uniform design, but with adapted housing sizes, which are easy to combine.

Lighting engineering accessories

Accessories allowing special requirements to be fulfilled are available for many ERCO products. The anti-glare ring, for example, further enhances the standard high level of visual comfort of the luminaires.

Light sources

A further criterion for deciding on the structure of ERCO's product ranges is light sources. Many product ranges comprise models with different lamps to offer designers application-related alternatives with appropriate characteristics.

Characteristics

Technologies such as Spherolit lenses and reflectors enable a wide range of light distribution patterns within a product group. ERCO has given each of these patterns and beam shapes a consistent name - irrespective of such parameters as light source or the luminaire's lumen category. This makes it easier for the user to navigate through ERCO's Program and helps ensure efficient design processes. The light distribution characteristics are a key design parameter for ERCO in structuring its product ranges.

Narrow spot
Used to accentuate small objects with high light intensity or to project over greater distances between the luminaire and the target object. Beam angle < 10°.

Spot
The standard characteristic for accent lighting for objects of all kinds, especially to reveal the three-dimensional shape. Beam angle: 10°-20°.

Flood
Used for efficient accentuation of large objects or to uniformly emphasise a complete spatial zone. Beam angle: 25°-35°.

Wide flood
Used for flexible, flooding illumination of surface areas and spatial zones, especially useful for the presentation of goods. Beam angle > 45°.

Oval flood
The oval flood Spherolit lens produces a wide-beam, axially symmetrical light distribution. An oval beam of approximately 20° to 60° is produced.

Wallwash
The light distribution of the lens wallwasher has been optimised to provide excellent uniformity.

Lighting control

Application and perception-orientated lighting control is a key factor in ensuring efficient visual comfort. A comprehensive approach is based on linking individual luminaires into intelligent lighting networks by using such aids as Light System DALI and ERCO's Light Clients, i.e. DALI-compatible luminaires. Even the development of control gear, which can be controlled both via a potentiometer on the luminaire and via trailing edge dimming of the circuit, is aimed to ensure a differentiated treatment of light and the efficient use of energy.

Dimmable control gear

Developed by ERCO, LED control gear with potentiometer can be dimmed on the luminaire itself, but also via the circuit - using the trailing edge technology prevalent from previous low-voltage halogen technology. This makes it possible, for instance, to upgrade appropriately equipped existing systems efficiently with modern LED spotlights.

DALI Light Clients

The alternative to dimming via potentiometer or the circuit is using DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) technology. Many luminaires in the ERCO product range are available as Light Clients, i.e. with DALI-compatible, factoryencoded control gear. They are automatically recognised by Light System DALI (plug and play).
