Discharge lamps have specific advantages over tungsten halogen lamps: in addition to high luminous flux and outstanding energy efficiency, they have a long service life. Directional luminaires have a glare-free Darklight reflector and, like the downlights of the same design, are designed to be recess-mounted in ceilings. Directed vertically, they produce light comparable to that of conventional downlights. The ability of the lamp and reflector to be tilted through up to 30° or even 40° from the vertical and be rotated through 360° is characteristic for directional luminaires. This allows the beam to be aimed at almost any area of the room, to provide the intended accent lighting.

The Lightcast directional luminaires have cast aluminium housings which are designed to provide optimum thermal properties according to their particular technical requirements. The Darklight technology combines the maximum visual comfort with the maximum light output ratio.
