PAR lamps have the characteristics of general service lamps. They produce a warm light effect with excellent colour rendition, switch on instantly and can be dimmed easily. The parabolic reflector of the PAR lamp ensures defined light beam angles. Directional luminaires have a glare-free Darklight reflector and, like the downlights of the same design, are designed to be recess-mounted in ceilings. Directed vertically, they produce light comparable to that of conventional downlights.

The ability of the lamp and reflector to be tilted through up to 30° or even 40° from the vertical and to be rotated through 360° is characteristic for directional luminaires. This allows the beam to be aimed at almost any area of the room, to provide the required accent lighting.
