Downlights

Rotationally symmetrical or axially symmetrical, wide beam light distribution for general lighting.

Lighting technology

Metal halide lamps
Beam characteristic: wide flood, oval flood

Luminaire arrangement

Arrangement of downlights depends on the design criteria.

A regular grid is recommended for uniform, horizontal illumination.

The guide value for the grid size (d) is the luminaire height (h) above the working plane.

The offset of the luminaire from the wall is recommended to be half the module of the grid (d)

Washlights

Asymmetrical light distribution, directed downwards, combined with uniform illumination of walls.

Lighting technology

Metal halide lamps
Beam characteristic: washlight

Luminaire arrangement

Offset from wall: one third of room height

Luminaire spacing: equal offset from the wall for uniform wallwashing

Decrease the luminaire spacing for high rooms

Reflector segment points away from the illuminated wall

Double washlights

Axially symmetrical light distribution, directed downwards, combined with illumination of parallel walls for corridors and hallways.

Lighting technology

Metal halide lamps
Beam characteristic: double washlight

Luminaire arrangement

Luminaire position for double washlights should be on the centre line between the two side walls

For uniform wallwashing, the luminaire spacing (d) should equal the offset from the wall (a)

Decrease the luminaire spacing for high rooms
