Quintessence for low-voltage halogen lamps

Low-voltage halogen lamps produce brilliant light, while their continuous spectrum results in excellent colour rendition. Dimming the light causes the light spectrum to shift towards the range of longer wavelengths. The halogens in the gas filling of the glass bulb increase the performance of the lamp and improve its service life.

Ring/gap

Luminaire trim: standard
The installation of Quintessence recessed luminaires without a shadow gap or varychrome ring creates a direct transition between ceiling and luminaire, reducing this detail to a miniumum.

Luminaire trim: shadow gap
The dark gap between the ceiling and the reflector distinguishes the luminaire from the ceiling. This black ring creates a defined contrast between the specular reflector and the ceiling.

Luminaire trim: varychrome ring
The coloured light from the LEDs in the trim detail of the luminaire creates a decorative effect in the ceiling´s appearance and subtly shifts the colour tone in the room.

Luminaire trim and mounting detail

Unique architecture requires unique lighting solutions - not just with respect to light distribution but also the mounting detail. In addition to the option of a round or square luminaire, the extensive Quintessence range also offers two further distinctive characteristics: the mounting and luminaire trim details. The mounting ring or mounting frame options allow the installation to be finished with either a visible mounting ring or a flush mounting trim detail. For each luminaire three variations exist: standard, with a shadow gap and with a varychrome ring for colour changing.

Vertical illuminance

Through Quintessence, ERCO offers a highly versatile range of luminaires for vertical illuminance. The spectrum extends from luminaires for extremely homogenous wallwashing, as required for museums or exhibitions, through functional washlights to washlighting with a focal emphasis. The latter is used to provide an additional accent for applications such as retail displays. Vertical illuminance is far more important for the subjective impression of brightness than light on horizontal surfaces. For this reason ERCO offers a wide range of lighting solutions for wall illumination, all of which are designed to save energy.

Architecture
Vertical illuminance makes spatial proportions visible due to the bright walls and gives the observer a clear and open impression of the room. At the same time, objects on the walls can either be accentuated or the material nature of the walls can be emphasised.

Perception
Due to the alignment of the human field of vision, vertical surfaces constitute a major part of our perception in indoor areas. This therefore has a considerable influence on the impression of brightness.

Efficiency
This false colour diagram shows the uniformity of vertical lighting. The efficiency and quality of uniformity depend on the design of the wallwashers, their offset from the wall and spacing.

Qualitative lighting design

Perception orientated lighting design starts with the requirements of the users. Since highly differentiated requirements arise within architecture, great importance was attached to giving Quintessence an extensive system design. The available light distributions and light sources are designed for uniform and economical ambient luminescence, an accentuating focal glow or a decorative play of brilliance using LED varychrome recessed luminaires.

Efficient visual comfort

Ambient luminescence
This refers to the uniform general lighting of vertical or horizontal surfaces. This type of lighting enables users and observers to get their bearings and provides a feeling of safety.

Focal glow
This typifies accent lighting used to emphasise objects, areas and specific zones in a space and to create hierarchies of perception. It is a central means of attracting the observer´s attention.

Play of brilliants
This is the decorative light, the light that attracts attention; it is light as an aesthetic object. Light effects such as dynamic colour progressions are used to increase the quality of the visual experience.
