Quintessence round
Efficient visual comfort
ERCO developed the Quintessence recessed luminaires especially for efficient visual comfort. As a result, this product range features a particularly wide selection of articles for vertical illuminance. The scope ranges from luminaires satisfying high-quality requirements in museums to powerful wallwashers for shops. In addition, the many characteristics and the wide range of varychrome luminaires are ideal for a variety of concepts for qualitative lighting design. Effective lighting technology optimally utilises the potential of the efficient light sources. While the incorporation into lighting control systems such as Light System DALI with energy management makes an additional contribution to the economic efficiency of Quintessence.
Flexibility
With a single mounting ring or frame, Quintessence´s modular system allows for the installation of luminaires with different characteristics and light sources. If plans change during installation or subsequent amendments are required, these can be easily accommodated. With Quintessence it is, for instance, a simple matter to replace a downlight with a directional luminaire.
Design and installation of wallwashers
The wallwashers´ asymmetrical light intensity distribution makes correct orientation towards the wall essential. ERCO simplifies the planning process by including in the Program scale drawings which are shown relative to the wall and that the luminaires are given a corresponding identification for installation.
Orientation towards the wall
When inserting the luminaires into the mounting ring, the "This side to wall" marking on the ring helps to orientate the luminaire correctly. A fine adjustment can then be made by turning the luminaire in the mounting ring, after which the luminaire is then fixed in position in the mounting ring.
Mounting in concrete housing
When using recessed luminaires in concrete housings, the housings must be orientated towards the wall in the same direction as the beam direction of the luminaires. Accurate information is contained in the luminaires´ installation instructions.
Variant luminaires may have different dimensions and require the concrete housing to be aligned differently.
Luminaire sizes
Whether round or square, the Quintessence product range covers all reflector sizes from 3 to 8. Choosing the shadow gap or varychrome ring will require a ceiling aperture which is one size larger than the version without the gap/ring.
Tool-free installation
With small recessed luminaires with cover mounting detail, the mounting without tools uses fixing springs. These springs are compressed onto the mounting ring and inserted and rotated into the ceiling aperture. A short counter-rotation clamps the mounting ring in place.
Many luminaires have clamping mechanisms on the mounting ring, allowing them to be installed quickly and without tools in different ceiling thicknesses. To remove the luminaire during renovation simply pull open the outer locking lever.
For luminaires with flush mounting detail, the installation uses mounting brackets. These mounting brackets can be adjusted to suit various ceiling thicknesses simply by installing them in a different slot.
The design brief for Quintessence recessed luminaires not only included excellent light quality but also simple and quick installation. The template enclosed with every luminaire allows the ceiling aperture to be marked out with speed and accuracy during dry construction. The separately enclosed mounting ring can be mounted quickly and efficiently without tools. In a subsequent building phase, the installer then inserts the luminaire housing and the light source - keeping the reflector dust-free throughout the dry construction phase. There are three mounting versions for the different luminaire sizes, each designed to allow the mounting ring or mounting frame to be removed from the ceiling aperture without using tools, even when renovating the ceiling.
Light System DALI
The requirements of professional lighting quite naturally include the ability to conveniently switch, dim or change the light colour of luminaires (depending on their lamp type). Since DALI (Digitally Addressable Lighting Interface) has developed into a standard in architectural lighting, the vast majority of Quintessence recessed luminaires are already designed as DALI-compatible luminaires, known as Light Clients.
The ERCO Light System DALI lighting control system uses an innovative approach. Intelligently applying DALI technology to individually addressable recessed luminaires is combined with the ERCO Light Studio software to form an integrated system for efficient visual comfort and scenographic lighting.

The Light Changer is a control panel featuring touch screen technology providing access to the stored light scenes. The clear and convenient user guidance provides for easy daily operation.
Accessories
A wide range of accessories, including filters, concrete housings and mounting frames, are available for Quintessence recessed luminaires. These further expand the already extensive Quintessence system, for the realisation of highly individualised lighting solutions that places objects of all kinds in the right light.
Double mounting frame
The double mounting frame allows two characteristics to be mounted in one unit. For instance, a directional luminaire "spot" and a wallwasher can be combined together.
Colour filters and lenses
UV filters provide protection for sensitive objects by limiting the spectral range. Skintone filters enhance warm, natural colours, especially skin colours. The food filter enhances the red and magenta spectrum of meat and cold cuts. To adapt halogen lamps to the colour temperature of daylight, the daylight conversion filter is used. In addition, various interference colour filters in magenta, amber, sky blue and night blue are available for coloured lighting.
Concrete housing
For the practical installation of luminaires in concrete ceilings, concrete housings are available, which are attached to the formwork. To provide better adhesion of the concrete, the undersides of the housings are undercut. Empty conduits for the connection cables simplify the subsequent electrical installation of the luminaires. The control gear units are all designed to operate in concrete housings. In addition, a spacer plate for the flush-mounting of downlights in fair face concrete is also available.
