The lighting requirements of two major projects the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Reichstag building in Berlin determined the design criteria for the development of the Stella range of spotlights by designer Franco Clivio. The Guggenheim project attached special value to functional criteria, i.e. to the exact adjustment of all movable and optical elements. The Reichstag project required spotlight illumination in the plenary chamber, giving high visual comfort while providing the correct lighting for television cameras. The Stella product range meets all these demands. So, each Stella spotlight features characteristic design details that are derived from practical applications. These include the positions of tilt and rotation, the lamp focusing and even the angle of rotation of the optical accessories can be set and locked with the Allen key attached to the spotlight. This ensures that the lighting effect will remain unchanged even after luminaire servicing or lamp replacement.

Graduations help towards exact alignment. The high visual comfort is ensured by the design of the light aperture: the luminaire cover is formed by an anti-dazzle attachment with cross-baffle, known as the `snoot´. Additional barn doors and honeycomb cross-baffles can limit the glare even further. Lens wallwasher versions and versions with lens systems for projecting crisp-edged beams or Gobo images complete the spotlight range and open up additional application areas for lighting designers using the Stella product range. A comprehensive range of accessories is available in the form of filters, lenses and attachments. Power ratings of 50W to 300W in three housing sizes and a comprehensive selection of lamps ranging from low-voltage halogen lamps and PAR lamps through to high-pressure discharge lamps. This makes the Stella system a high-quality, professional toolkit for museum and presentation lighting and for many other applications. The DALI-compatible luminaires have digital control gear through which each luminaire can be individually addressed - for instance using the ERCO Light System DALI with its integral ERCO Light Studio software.
