Low-voltage halogen lamps are more energy efficient than incandescent lamps and retain their brilliant light, power and colour throughout their life. Low-voltage halogen lamps are small and robust; they come in various sizes and wattages and can be capsule or available as reflector lamps, i.e. with metal or coolbeam reflectors. Directional luminaires have a glare-free Darklight reflector and, as with, the downlights of the same design, are recess-mounted in ceilings. Directed perpendicularly, they produce light comparable to that of conventional downlights.
The ability of the lamp and reflector to be tilted through up to 15° from the vertical and be rotated through 360° horizontally is characteristic for directional luminaires. This allows the beam to be aimed at almost any area of the room, to provide the intended lighting accentuation. Furthermore, when fitted with a sculpture lens, a directional luminaire can produce uniform vertical illuminance. High protection mode directional luminaires are suitable especially for the transitional areas between indoors and outdoors. In indoor areas where protection against moisture or dust is required, they ensure high-quality lighting even in these harsh environmental conditions.
