The Grasshopper range with its versatile mounting possibilities and the lockable hinge is suitable for flexible accent lighting and floodlighting in the outdoor area. The compact design with low power rating lamps is used, for example, for the lighting of façades, details, objects such as company signs or sculptures, plants and trees. Their optical systems feature the innovative Spherolit technology providing the option of narrow spot, spot, flood, wide flood, oval flood or wallwash light distribution. The control gear is separate from the light head and ensures optimal heat management to protect the electronic components.

The quality of the optical systems has a major influence on the overall efficiency of an LED. To produce directed light, as occurs in spotlights, ERCO develops their optical projection systems in-house. A collimating lens, as a secondary lens, is the interface between the LED lens on the printed circuit board and the exchangeable Spherolit lenses acting as tertiary lenses. The collimating lens directs the light of the LEDs into a parallel beam in order that the required light distribution can then be created by the tertiary lens. The principle of total internal reflection in the collimating lens contributes to the high efficiency of the optical system. Decades of experience in injection-moulded polymers ensure the highest quality levels from our in-house production plant.

To accentuate small objects with high light intensity or to cover large distances between luminaire and object. Beam angle < 10°.
The light intensity distribution for highlighting objects of all types, especially to accentuate three-dimensional shapes.

The Spherolit lens, oval flood, has an axially symmetrical light intensity distribution, producing an oval beam of about 30° by 90°.
The light intensity distribution of the lens wallwasher is designed to provide very high uniformity.

LED heat management
Like other lamps, high-power LEDs generate heat. To prevent the luminous flux and life of the lamp from decreasing drastically, the maximum junction temperature must not be exceeded even during continuous operation. ERCO places particular importance on heat management in its luminaires to ensure that the LED modules remain below the critical temperature range and operate at full output throughout their lives. Mounting the LED module directly on metal-core PCBs effectively dissipates the heat to the luminaire housing. The form, design and material of the housing all contribute to effective heat management. Extensive simulations and tests during the development phase ensure the success of all the products in the range.
