For as long as anyone can remember, horse breeding and equestrian sports are part of Arab culture. Legends have grown up around the herd of Prophet Mohammed, from which it is believed that all contemporary thoroughbred Arabian horses originated. Although at first the close relationship between horse and rider was a matter of survival for desert dwellers, the breeding and riding of the elegant animals evolved into a luxurious leisure activity as prosperity reached unprecedented levels in Dubai, as proven by the generous investments of the ruling family. The 'Nad al-Sheba' racetrack is the scene of the 'Dubai World Cup' - a world-renowned racing spectacle that in just a few years has become a fixed date in the calendar of all horse racing fans.
Spectators fill out their betting slips very carefully. Nadir recessed floor luminaires are arranged at the base of the columns, thus creating a light well that appears to project out from under the bench.
