Skim recessed luminaires with extra wide flood: The more efficient introduction to perfect light

Since their launch in 2014 Skim recessed luminaires have inspired designers and users alike. With a highly sophisticated LED lens system, they deliver superior light quality with high efficiency at an outstanding price to performance ratio – matched by a visual aesthetic that reflects the fascination and magic of innovative technology.

Available with a new, specially designed extra wide flood lens, Skim now joins the other lighting tools in the ERCO range that take the approach of combining an exceptionally wide beam with glare-free downlights so as to increase the recommended luminaire spacing to 1.5 times the distance above the working plane. The result is an overall more efficient lighting concept with lower energy usage and minimised investment and installation costs. This means only six luminaires are needed to achieve uniform ambient lighting with a median illuminance of 300lx in a 50sqm space with a 3m ceiling height.

The new Skim extra wide flood recessed luminaire achieves superbly uniform ambient lighting with a 90° emission angle and a 30° cut-off. Especially in the office and in administration buildings, this allows the luminaires to be spaced unusually far apart – for superior illumination that meets current standards at the workplace, in prestigious areas, lounges, circulation zones or secondary spaces. For optimum visual comfort, Skim downlights can be combined with Compact wallwashers to balance vertical illuminance with ambient lighting. As an aesthetic alternative to conventional matrix solutions, the recessed luminaires achieve an elegant, minimal ceiling design in any office.

As all Skim recessed luminaires, their shallow recess depth and integrated mounting frame guarantees quick installation at low cost. The new versions are available with the light colours neutral white 4000K and warm white 3000K, with control gear options including switchable, phase dimmable and DALI version.

Highly efficient photometrics

With a light output ratio of up to 0.83, the compact lens system of Skim is equally notable for its high efficiency. The special geometry ensures excellent glare control for a low UGR value (Unified Glare Rating) providing ergonomic lighting even for workstations.

Shallow recess depth

In tight mounting situations, every millimetre counts for the right recess depth of a luminaire. ERCO has therefore developed luminaires with a shallow recess depth to provide excellent light quality in areas with limited installation space.

Suitable for workplaces

ERCO develops luminaires on the premise of efficient glare control and high visual comfort. UGR values are provided as an orientation around the current standards. The lighting design particularly for downlights, however, should be based on the individual arrangement of the luminaires in the room rather than on standard values.
