Lighting solutions
With enormous commitment, investor Peter Pühringer transformed the classic, aristocratic palace on Vienna's Ringstrasse into a residence and conference centre of the highest order.
The 5-star hotel with 35 individually furnished suites also includes 9 individually styled event rooms with a combined usable area of 2,500m2, as well as a bar, a lounge and a gourmet restaurant. This authentic, historical backdrop is also used to conceal the latest generation of sophisticated house technology and communications technology.
Coburg Palace was built between 1840 and 1845 as a city residence for the dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Designed by architect Karl Schleps who died in 1840, the building was executed posthumously by master builder Adolph Korompay, who used sections of the razed Vienna city wall for the foundations.
The designers of the conversion co-operated closely with the planning authorities for listed buildings. Their design incorporated large sections of the fabric of the building, some of which were up to 600 years old. The result is a successful synthesis of old and new.
First-class gastronomy needs perfect ambience. Professional lighting creates a pleasant atmosphere for gourmet menus - such as here in the glazed garden pavilion, where carefully focused Pollux spotlights for low-voltage halogen lamps accentuate each table with a brilliant highlight.
The casemate from Vienna's former city wall, some of which dates back many centuries, now lies beneath the palace. Conference rooms and event rooms with extraordinary flair have now been created here. Recessed floor luminaires add dramatic scenic lighting to the historical vaulting. The lighting here, as in the entire hotel complex, is controlled by an ERCO Controls system: programmed light scenes to suit the occasion can be recalled via the ERCO Control Pad's touch screen.
The contents of the wine cellar was a matter very close to the heart of the master builder. The selection includes vintages going back to 1792. Deep below ground, the fine wines have optimum storage conditions.
Parscoop ceiling washlights provide an even and glare-free indirect lighting for the traditional vaulting.
A series of ceremonial halls at the elite palace was carefully restored true to the original and in harmony with the preservation order.
Contemporary technology is at work in secret here: the only visible part of the ultra-modern, networked lighting control system is the ERCO Control Pad, designed as a functional yet elegant operating panel.
