Louvre glass pyramid - New lighting 2005
The vitreous pyramid was designed to sparkle like a crystal at night - this vision was shared by architects and client right from the very start. Implementing this image with the available lighting technology presented difficulties however, because a transparent body cannot simply be illuminated by conventional means. The lighting designer Claude Engle solved this task by shining brilliant, narrowly focused light at the filigree support structure. For this purpose ERCO developed special recessed spotlights which were mounted internally at the base of the pyramid.
