"Auf Papier" is the first exhibition of the museum since 1913 that provides a large-scale, comprehensive exhibition of 365 drawings owned by the city and by the Arts Academy in Düsseldorf. The works introduced were created by Italian, French, German and Dutch artists of the 15th to 20th century.

The assemblage of these selected, valuable exhibits in the Palace wing is evidence of the significance of Düsseldorf's collection of drawings. The works are very delicate since century-old pigments and materials such as paper and parchment shun light, touch and humidity. Right down to the lighting, the special precautions taken are thus geared to preserving these treasures.

Specially for the exhibition, the museum invested in new ERCO lighting tools: Optec spotlights with LED lamps now provide efficient visual comfort while adequately illuminating the exhibits. The high-power LEDs in warm white produce light that appears highly natural but is free of harmful IR and UV rays. Further advantages are a long life and high luminous efficacy. The combination of collimator lens, which initially directs the light in parallel lines, and a Spherolit lens, which determines the light distribution, allows for spot and flood characteristics of the light - and thus stages artwork of different formats with optimal results.

The luminaire head and control gear housing of Optec spotlights are separate. The luminaire head fitted on the side can thus be swivelled up to 180 degrees to ensure maximum precision when aligning the light.

As for many spotlights with low-voltage halogen lamps, the dimmer settings for the LED spotlights can be regulated individually. This is made possible by a potentiometer on the control gear that helps adjust the illuminance with maximum precision for maximum preservation of the works of art. The museum kunst palast thus has lighting tools that it will also be able to use flexibly in the future to ensure effective illumination of highly delicate exhibits.

Generally, the illuminance of graphics and drawings on paper and parchment should not exceed 50 lux. A photometer verifies that the unique works are not damaged by the light.
