The pictograms and directive luminaires are illuminated from inside the console by compact fluorescent lamps. They usually convey information quicker and more safely than texts. Furthermore, they are also independent of any one particular language. This factor is of decisive significance in the Louvre considering its large number of international visitors. At the request of the architect, ERCO designed the pictogram luminaire in such a way that the pictogram itself appears to float in the acrylic glass plate.
