With its glazed lighting facade the P3 Automated Warehouse has added a new quality to the design of industrial buildings: here, for the first time ever, a media facade is being used to convey information about the processes going on inside the building. Modern technology is behind the lighting installation. An ERCO lighting control system dims and switches the fluorescent lamps on and off, and sequences over 250 different light scenes. The "Structural Glazing" facade construction made of cast-glass elements also represents an innovation in structural engineering and is the largest of its kind.

On the translucent facade of the cuboid construction, the complex processes inside the machinery are mimicked by lighting signals and thereby communicated to the outside world. Ever changing patterns of vertical lines, reminiscent of the barcodes that identify goods and parcels, appear on the facade in shimmering blue-green light.
