Lighting solutions

In Singapore, a variety of ethnic and religious groups live peacefully side by side. One of the particularly colourful groups among them are the Hindus, mostly descendants of Indian and Tamil immigrants. With a grand, exotic celebration called 'Maha Kumbhabishegam', the Tamil Hindu community of Singapore consecrated its newly rebuilt temple of the elephant-headed god, Vinayagar, on Ceylon Road on 7 February 2003.

Hindus have practiced their religion at this place for around 150 years. The inside of the temple houses altars consecrated to the various Hindu gods. Ceiling paintings depict scenes of ancient religious legends. The burning of incense and sacrificial offerings by the priests are all part of the cult.

The tower above the temple portal, the Rajagopuram, rises up 22 metres, carrying no less than 160 statues of gods. Thanks to its effective lighting, it constitutes a striking feature of the cityscape even at nights. For this, Beamer projectors and Focalflood floodlights were mounted on poles. Thanks to the IP65 protection mode, these luminaires from the ERCO outdoor lighting program are able to withstand even the tropical climate of South-East Asia.

The temple walls are adorned by reliefs showing the Hindu gods in their many forms. These magnificent friezes are illumined by Tesis wallwashers for recessed floor mounting.
