Lighting solutions
September 2001: equipped with phosphorescent batons and waterproof overshoes, the guests enjoyed the magical atmosphere of the opening ceremony for ERCO's Light Garden.
Since then, already hundreds of visitors and customers at the Light Garden have seen for themselves the power and the possible applications of ERCO Outdoor Luminaires.
Lighting design in the outdoor area
The Light Garden from ERCO consists of a standard lighting set-up for grounds and buildings plus additional, effective lighting scenarios controlled via ERCO Controls systems. Lighting both the indoor and outdoor areas eliminates the spatial boundaries. A show-jumping course makes the special qualities of the outdoor luminaires become apparent, especially with regards to the visual comfort and precision of the lighting technology. Compared to the old system, it was possible to reduce the connected load of the standard lighting by over 60%.
Inside - Outside
The instruments for shaping outdoor areas at night are brightness and colour. These serve as tools for defining spatial limits, for directing one's attention and for establishing hierarchies of how noticeable each item is. The integration of indoor and outdoor lighting allows spatial boundaries to flow into each other. The inner courtyard is given a special accent with moonlight illumination.
Facade P1 - Moonlight facade
Parscoop floodlights illuminate the facade evenly and allow the contours of the trees to be clearly recognised. Recessed floor luminaires lend the trees additional vividness. 'Light blue' colour filters mimic and add to the moonlight. A small amount of light is sufficient for outdoor illumination. Less than 5 lux will suffice for vertical illuminance.
Facade P2 - Spatial termination
On this evenly illuminated facade, the contrasting shadows caused by the three-dimensional facade elements become highly noticeable. The staircase tower is picked out by two 70 W HIT Beamers with sculpture lenses. Projectors with sculpture lenses and colour filters are dynamically controlled via an ERCO Controls system.
Trees and bushes as eye-catchers in an area
The use of dramatic lighting effects on trees and bushes at ERCO's Light Garden ranges from a selective illumination for emphasising silhouettes through to shining light flatly onto a group of trees.
Dramatic lighting effects are achieved by recessed floor luminaires or by using coloured and dynamic light.
