if product design awards 2014: Light Board and Pollux
Background

Light Board and Pollux win if product design awards 2014

The time has come again for the if design awards. With Pollux and Light Board, this year’s winners once again include ERCO products – two lighting tools that win the day by combining elegant and functional design with highly efficient, state-of-the art LED technology.

Created by ERCO’s design team around Henk Kosche, both reflect the requirements of modern lighting solutions: the contour attachment of Pollux creating a sharp-edged rectangular beam, for instance, or the notebook-based premium hinge of Light Board for flexible beam alignment.

Since ERCO first entered the international design competition in 1977, 82 products developed by the Light Factory have won the if design award. With products such as Eclipse or Parscan and designers including Roger Tallon, Mario Bellini or Franco Clivio, the list of winners presents benchmarks in architectural lighting design. Despite the change in technology, ERCO’s design approach runs like a common thread throughout three decades in which the Light Factory in Lüdenscheid has successfully linked innovative lighting products with architecturally reduced product design to form a distinctive, forward-looking design language.

Parscan (left, 2005) and Stella (right, 2000) are design icons at the turn of the millennium. Whereas the cylindrical Parscan spotlight, called “white can”, is considered a classic in museum lighting, Stella was used primarily in stores and shops.

The design concepts of Eclipse (left, 1987) and Oseris (right, 1984) could not be any more different. The expressive, flexible design of Eclipse stands in contrast to the minimalist shape of Oseris. Even today, almost thirty years later, these lighting tools are still used in such places as museums.
