Solución de iluminación a medida para un evento artístico líder a nivel mundial: ERCO como socio de Art Basel

A partir de 2026, ERCO será el socio oficial de iluminación de Art Basel, la feria de arte más importante del mundo dedicada al arte moderno y contemporáneo de los siglos XX y XXI. En estrecha colaboración con Expomobilia GmbH, responsable de la planificación, el suministro y el montaje de la infraestructura ferial en las cinco sedes de Basilea, París, Miami Beach, Hong Kong y Catar, se ha creado una solución de iluminación personalizada y sostenible para escenificar a la perfección las más diversas obras de arte en todos los recintos expositivos.
Por un lado, el reto consistía en desarrollar una solución de iluminación uniforme para usarla en distintos continentes, es decir, en países con tensiones de red diferentes donde rigen normas muy distintas. Por otra parte, era necesario que ocupara poco espacio durante el transporte y que su montaje fuera lo más sencillo y rápido posible. Los modelos especiales de proyectores Parscan XL, desarrollados junto con el equipo de «ERCO individual», se adaptan a diversas soluciones de montaje y condiciones técnicas en tres continentes. Además, se pueden transportar por todo el mundo de forma segura de un evento a otro en maletas de transporte aéreo especiales de diseño propio.

Art Basel se celebró por primera vez en 1970 en Basilea, y poco a poco se fueron sumando otras sedes, como Miami Beach, Hong Kong y París. En febrero de 2026 se inauguró una nueva sede en Oriente Próximo, concretamente Art Basel Qatar en Doha. La feria de arte organizada por MCH Group AG reúne a galerías, coleccionistas, comisarios y amantes del arte de todo el mundo.

La luz es más que una mera necesidad técnica, se trata de una herramienta para el comisariado que visibiliza las ideas de los artistas, añade una carga emocional a las obras y refuerza su efecto. Gracias a sus ópticas intercambiables sin necesidad de herramientas, los proyectores Parscan XL de ERCO montados en raíles electrificados permiten, por un lado, una iluminación homogénea de los paneles de exposición móviles de las ferias, con buena uniformidad y un gran confort visual. También existe la posibilidad de una iluminación de acento con posicionamiento flexible para piezas expuestas concretas, a fin de escenificarlas de forma focalizada y favorecer las ventas.

La última generación de proyectores Parscan de ERCO destaca por una óptica de bañado de pared notablemente mejorada que permite un posicionamiento más flexible y, por lo tanto, una adaptación más sencilla a la disposición de los estands en la feria. Además, este proyector se puede adaptar a la iluminación de acento gracias a sus ópticas intercambiables (con distribución luminosa wide flood, oval flood o spot)

Customised spotlights based on stringent US requirements
“US standards currently impose higher mechanical and electrical requirements than, for example, EU standards”, explains Tobias Spohr. “That is why the customised solution we developed — used from one Art Basel edition to the next — is based on the demanding US version.” The Parscan XL spotlights are equipped with special control gear certified for multiple technical environments and voltages ranging from 120 V / 60 Hz (US) to 230 V / 50 Hz (EU). All luminaires are also fitted with a US adapter, making them compatible with ERCO US track systems.

As a new feature, all luminaires are equipped with a potentiometer — a manually operated rotary dimmer. Unlike flush-mounted designs, this control protrudes clearly from the luminaire body, allowing brightness to be adjusted quickly and easily on site. Printed symbols on the lens rings further support quick installation and aiming on site by clearly indicating the light distribution of each lens.
The installation window is very limited and varies depending on the construction phase of each fair. The system must be designed so that technicians can install and adjust it intuitively and quickly — while still giving galleries the flexibility to stage their artworks.

Modularity, energy efficiency and durability: a consistently sustainable solution
For transporting the luminaires between exhibition locations, ERCO worked with Expomobilia to develop a dedicated logistics solution: the spotlights travel safely and compactly in custom-made flight cases. They are pre-sorted to allow rapid unpacking and installation upon arrival.
The system is compatible with a wide range of installation conditions at different venues: In Basel, suspended rods hang from the hall ceiling, into which ERCO tracks or point outlets can be clicked. In Miami Beach, a truss system with ERCO US tracks is used. In Hong Kong and Paris, cantilever arms with integrated ERCO track sections are installed in front of the presentation walls. The Parscan spotlights can be mounted without tools and operated reliably within all these varying infrastructures.

The new lighting system is designed for re-use across all Art Basel editions, significantly extending its lifecycle and contributing to sustainability. Combined with energy-efficient LED technology, this helps reduce both operational energy consumption and material use over time. Since the system moves between fair locations and is installed several times a year, durability and robustness are essential. The equipment must also be resistant to transport damage and easy to maintain.
