Best practice urban design is complemented by artistic commentary: Metro Art is Sydney Metro’s vision to incorporate relevant art into each station – either newly commissioned or relocated from elsewhere in the city.

Nicole Monk’s Footprints on Gadigal Nura is the prominent work that spans the walls of the escalator void at Waterloo Metro Station, the first stop outside the CBD and home to a vibrant multicultural community. Metal rendered footprints reflect the nomadic lifestyle of the traditional owners of the Gadigal lands. Balancing the needs of targeted light from a grand height and avoiding glare for those riding the escalators, lighting designers WSP chose to column and ceiling mount ERCO Kona here, for its precision optics and durability.
