Accent lighting

In higher spaces such as foyers, atria and halls, accent lighting supports orientation by creating hierarchies in perception. Accent lighting models with light and shadow to emphasize the three-dimensional character of exhibits and other objects. Because of these large distances, high lumen-output spotlights are needed for displaying individual exhibition objects. For small light beam diameters, very narrow beam angles are required that simultaneously provide high levels of visual comfort.

Rule of thumb for spotlight arrangements

For the illumination of exhibition objects, an inclination angle of α = 30° (museum angle) is also optimum in high rooms. To avoid hard shadowing, the illumination should be from several sides and ideally offset by 120°.

Tip for luminaire selection:
in high rooms the large distances between light source and object require high-output spotlights. For small light beam diameters, suitable light distributions are spot and narrow spot with their very narrow beam angles.
