Precision at height — The lighting evolution of Prestige Gallery, Singapore.
Located in the industrial-creative hub of Tanjong Pagar Distripark—a prestigious address shared with the Singapore Art Museum (SAM)—Prestige Gallery recently underwent a significant technical upgrade to its lighting infrastructure. By transitioning to the Pollux New spotlight range from ERCO, the gallery has enhanced its long-term capacity to showcase diverse artistic forms with professional precission.
One of the first exhibitions to benefit from this new installation was Wang Chongxue’s solo show, Extraction · Reconstruction. Curated by Du Xiyun and Rick Shi, the exhibition served as a perfect demonstration of how the gallery’s upgraded lighting system handles the challenges of a 4m-high ceiling space.
A strategic infrastructure upgrade.
The decision to install the new Pollux New spotlights represents a commitment to high-performance architectural lighting that remains accessible and efficient. As a streamlined and versatile range within the ERCO portfolio, Pollux provides the gallery with world-class light quality while fitting seamlessly into a cost-focused planning framework.
Engineered for the 4m Throw: Technical refinements to the internal LED modules and in-house developed control gear allow the Pollux New spotlights to deliver up to 33% more light output than its predecessor. This increased power ensures the luminaires can comfortably bridge the 4m mounting height, delivering crisp, punchy light to the artwork below.
Sustainable Evolution: The upgrade reflects a responsible use of resources. By re-engineering the internal components to fit the existing Pollux housing, ERCO allowed the gallery to adopt the latest LED technology while retaining a timeless, sustainable design.
Thermal Intelligence: Optimized thermal management ensures the luminaires maintain high-performance output consistently, an essential factor for professional galleries operating under rigorous exhibition schedules.
Versatility in Action: "Extraction · Reconstruction"
The technical flexibility installation of the Pollux New spotlights was immediately evident during Wang Chongxue’s exhibition. His work, which reconfigures classical fragments through a contemporary geometric lens, requires a lighting system that can adapt to varying scales and focus points.
Precision through interchangeable lenses.
The gallery utilized ERCO’s interchangeable lenses to tune the environment. Because the lenses can be switched on the luminaire head without tools, the team could easily transition between six different light distributions to match the specific dimensions of Wang’s varied canvases.
Sharp framing for geometric clarity
A standout feature of the Pollux spotlights upgrade is its Framing capability. This allowed the gallery to confine light precisely to rectangular areas, creating a sharp, clean "cut" that isolated the artworks from the walls. This effect mirrored the "thoughtful precision" of Wang’s compositions, highlighting the artist's use of reason and geometry.
