CapitaSpring, Singapore

Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group in collaboration with Carlo Ratti Associati, CapitaSpring is a mixed-used commercial building consisting of offices, services apartments, and other public spaces that include two gardens and an observatory deck. At 280-meters, it is one of the tallest building in Singapore and it grabbed many people’s attention upon its completion.

The lighting design is done by Nipek, a Singapore-based lighting design firm. According to Nipek, “The lighting is designed to respond to the architecture, landscape elements and function by carefully selecting the type of light fixtures and the colour of the light”.

The trees at the carpark level are highlighted in green and warm white lighting to create a “green pocket”, a stand out feature of the building’s façade, and the glare free light also means that the “green pockets” of the façade remains a stunning feature at night.

The Sky Garden Singapore's tallest publicly accessible observatory deck. The 51st floor observatory deck offers a panoramic view of Marina Bay. Lighting here is kept at a low level to not disturb the viewer’s perspective of the city’s night scape and to reduce light pollution. To keep the continuity from the carpark level façade, there are pockets at the rooftop façade where the trees are highlighted. Tesis in-ground luminaire are used to illuminate the trees and facilitate orientation in the Sky Garden.

As you enter the main office lobby, you immediately register the high ceiling space. One would think that you would need lots of light fixtures to light such a space. But with our Parscan and Atrium Double Focus series, you can achieve more, with less.

The sheer volume of the 18 meters high space was further emphasised by highlighting the walls evenly with Atrium Double Focus wall washer downlights. Lightgap grazing light was used on the accent wall to bring out the different material in finishing. Parscan 48V spotlights were used to create light carpets at the entrances, reception counter, lift lobby, and security gantry to guide orientation through contrast in brightness. Even with the high ceiling space, Parscan provides enough light for the face recognition gantry. With all these in place, the ceiling remains clean, neat and minimal.

The drive up to the carpark is a very visually comfortable experience. The optical cut-off angle of our Skim downlights means you will not be affected by any glare from the light as you drive up the slope into the carpark. Skim downlights are enclosed in a customized housing to house the emergency lights, and the uniform lighting in the carpark creates a visually comfortable, well-lit space.

CapitaSpring has achieved Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Platinum, the highest sustainability rating in Singapore, and the BCA Universal Design Mark GoldPLUS Award for its landscaping.
