Fill light

Secondary lighting component of → three-point lighting, used to reduce the contrasts created by the key light. The fill light is offset to the side and used at a lower intensity to brighten shaded areas without cancelling out the modelling produced by the key light. In stage lighting, it supports a balanced perception of facial expression, body volume, and costume. The other components of three-point lighting are → key light and → back light.
