Rule of thumb for vertical and horizontal lighting
Facade luminaires structure vertical surfaces with light directed upwards and downwards. Their grazing light also emphasises the plasticity of materials. To avoid glare for pedestrians, luminaires emitting light upwards should not be mounted below the eye height (h) of the observer. h > eye level Tip for luminaire selection: Good glare control increases the accenting effect. Important: to avoid light pollution, light directed upwards should not radiate outside of the target plane. To avoid glare, ground-recessed wallwashers should not be installed in front of shop windows.
