Planned outdoor architecture is an art. Good lighting in public spaces and thoroughfares ensures the architecture of pathways, facades and planting can be appreciated night and day, and supports the spatial perception of the layout.
Castor bollards provide comfortable, glare-free illumination of the pathways throughout Gosch's Paddock, the parkland that surrounds Melbourne’s iconic sporting precinct. Guests at sporting events, as well as the public passing through the area to access the city, will welcome the safety and guidance that effective lighting has brought to the park amenity. The luminaires’ innovative optical system with ring-shaped lenses creates light distributions aligned at 180° to illuminate one side only for paths, or at 360° for open areas and where paths merge.

Activity
Gosch's Paddock in Melbourne is the parkland that surrounds important sporting venues like the MCG and Rod Laver Arena. It is prominent and has high foot traffic. Castor bollards with 180° and 360° beams define routes clearly and without glare. A large open public space can feel threatening after dark, but by providing the correct level of illumination and by ensuring there is no glare, users can enjoy the space without wondering what is concealed in the dark beyond the path.
Atmosphere
As well as providing safety and comfort for pedestrians and cyclists using the pathways, the correct warm color temperature, consistent spacing and height add to the appeal of the space.
