Gestalt principles in lighting design: the law of proximity
As its principal founder, Max Wertheimer (1880–1943) devoted his work to Gestalt psychology and Gestalt theory.
At the so-called Berlin School of Gestalt psychology, he formulated the corresponding Gestalt principles, which take human perception into account.
The "law of proximity" offers useful guidance when it comes to luminaires on ceilings.

- 1Position luminaires close together when they are meant to be perceived as one coherent group – this automatically appears more harmonious.
- 2Plan your luminaire grid carefully in advance, as a regular grid of points or lines forms the basis for balanced lighting tailored to the space.
