Naver 1784

Opened in 2022, the Naver 1784 Tower in Seongnam, South Korea, brings to life the tech giant's vision of a "tech convergence building." More than just a modern and eco-friendly workspace for employees, this innovative building embodies NAVER's dedication to turning ideas into reality. It serves as a testbed for the company's future endeavours in robotics, artificial intelligence, and cloud services.

Recognized with LEED Platinum certification in 2022, 1784 stands as a testament of South Korea's progress in innovation, health, and environmental responsibility.

As befits a tech giant, the building's exterior utilizes cutting-edge systems to minimize energy consumption while maintaining aesthetics. The Triple Skin Façade regulates light and temperature naturally while a dynamic Kinetic Facade transforms the building from minimalist cuboid to colourful display, adding artistic flair to the streetscape.

NAVER 1784 prioritizes practicality in their office architecture starting right from the reception area. Stepping inside Naver 1784 Tower, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking 4-story atrium bathed in natural light. During the day, the vast open space basks in sunshine, fostering a sense of openness and connection. As night falls, ERCO Stella takes centre stage, illuminating the atrium with a soft glow that radiates both inside and outside the building. This transparent effect symbolizes Naver's commitment to collaboration and accessibility.

But functionality doesn't take a backseat to aesthetics. Strategically placed luminaires ensure energy efficiency by directing light only where it's needed, reducing wasted energy. Additionally, Optec Spotlights controlled by a Dali system add soft accent lighting to furniture and plants, creating a nice contrast to the ambient office. This makes the space visually interesting while maintaining adequate illumination for walking paths.

Naver 1784's secure entry goes beyond just safety. The facial recognition system at the staff entrance is bathed in light while reducing glare, ensuring clear scans for quick and accurate access. This focus on illumination isn't just about security, it's about creating a smooth, tech-driven experience for employees.

Using light to create a "welcome mat" produces a bright and inviting impression, while also offering orientation and guiding individuals to their intended destination.

Instead of having fixed fixtures, ERCO tracks are installed along the ceilings of common area and hallways, allowing building managers to easily add or remove lights as needed. This adaptability makes these a true multi-use spaces that can be effortlessly transformed to suit different activities and employee needs.

Naver 1784's bridge walkway gets a bright and even glow by using an oval flood lighting distribution, while reducing the number of luminaires needed to four Parscan LED 12W 5000K fixtures.

At the summit of Naver 1784 is the Sky Hall, a versatile space located on level 28. This expansive area features a 7-meter-high ceiling with a dynamic sloping ceiling detail and floor-to-ceiling windows, making it a gorgeous venue for corporate events, conferences, and even serving as a wedding location for Naver’s employees.

The SKY Hall truly showcases the Language of Light. Strategically positioned skylights on the sloping roof bathe the Sky Hall in natural light, reducing the reliance on artificial lighting during the day and contributing to the venue's sustainability efforts. Additionally, ambient lighting provided by Hitrac shines up to the ceiling and reflects downward into the space, creating a soft lighting effect while accentuating the unique architectural details of the sloped ceiling.

Whether it's a focused seminar or a vibrant celebration, Sky Hall's lighting adapts seamlessly. Louvres and blinds on the skylights allow for precise daylight control, while the Hi-trac Luminaire indirect emission LED 12W 4000K and Eclipse Intrack L LED 19.8W 4000K SP, WF White DALI fine-tunes artificial illumination.

The Eclipse spotlights offer the necessary accent lighting, establishing a dynamic atmosphere with layers of lighting hierarchy, and providing the flexibility required for a variety of events. These luminaires, controlled via Dali, include pre-programmed lighting scenes tailored to different activities within the space. An interesting fact: there are 5 programmed scenes designed specifically for a wedding setting!
