Dimming behaviour of luminaires

Soft transitions as a quality attribute

Dimming of light scenes: 1% or 0.1%?

In the past, if LED control gear could dim down to 1% it was considered to be a characteristic of good quality. In the meantime, in-house developed ERCO DALI control gear is now able to dim down to 0.1%. Is this apparently slight difference significant in practice? Yes, because the eye does not perceive differences in brightness linearly but algorithmically. Whilst switching off light via dimming with a 1% limit value still creates a significantly noticeable and perhaps disturbing transition, the same process with the latest ERCO control gear has a continuous and soft impression. This optimised dimming behaviour is important in many applications, e.g. in concert halls and conference halls at the beginning and end of events.
