The George in Rye

Welcome to The George in Rye. Step inside this luxurious hotel nestled in the gorgeous British county of Sussex.

Located in the centre of Rye, East Sussex, the hotel has recently undergone a beautiful renovation to create one of the most stunning hideaways on the south coast of the UK. The building dates from 1575 and boasts an intricate history and heritage, with the original Georgian ballroom still used for lavish weddings and banquets. As you move through the space, the décor and design creates the perfect synergy between old and new. An eclectic and contemporary design has been given to this building, using a wide range of antique and modern furniture, materials and art, which honours the history. A gorgeous blend of historic and modern design has been created, portraying a warm, inviting and informal atmosphere for guests to enjoy.

The lighting scheme had to align with blending the old and new seamlessly. The hotel owner, Katie Clarke appointed ERCO to supply the luminaires within the space. The brief was to produce a lighting scheme which invited visitors into a warm and cosy environment throughout the hotel and within the George Grill Restaurant creating atmosphere and theatre from breakfast through to dinner.

ERCO have worked with the hotel since 2016, with ERCO fittings bringing hotel owner Katie’s vision to life, delicately illuminating this country oasis. In the latest renovation, ERCO’s Parscan luminaires, were chosen to elevate the hotel’s restaurant, The George Grill, bringing light to the space and communicating its sunny and Mediterranean menu to guests.  The luminaires truly elevate the space, creating a depth and warm, showcasing the textures and colours. Each table is delicately illuminated, through this considered lighting scheme, allowing diners to experience comfort and satisfy their visual tastebuds by truly showcasing the culinary delights of the restaurants head chef.

The George has long been a community meeting point in the town, entertaining three King Georges, Wellington and the Mayor of London. This is truly a stunning hotel and one that will continue to draw in guests for centuries to come.
