Situated in the heart of Stockholm on Helgeandsholmen island, the Riksdagshuset, the House of Parliament, serves as the seat of the Swedish Parliament and stands as a symbol of democratic tradition. The neoclassical building from 1905 bridges history and the present, shaping the cityscape between the Old Town and modernity. After decades of operation, the existing outdoor lighting had become technically outdated and no longer met contemporary design standards. Lighting design firm Light Bureau developed a new concept that combines efficiency, durability and a restrained aesthetic.
The pathways surrounding the parliamentary building were re-imagined using Tesis in-ground luminaires. Integrated into the paving, they provide uniform light for safety and orientation without visual distraction. Their precise light distribution creates calm zones that allow the historic site to be experienced atmospherically.
The architecture of the Parliament requires a lighting solution that is effective even from a distance without losing precision. Beamer projectors ensure uniform illumination of the facade. Even under changing weather conditions, lighting remains consistent and precise.
The holistic lighting concept achieves more than just visibility: it offers orientation and safety, imparting an inviting atmosphere to the site at all times of day and night.
